Dr. Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State, has spoken out about his sadness over the passing of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, chief of army staff. Mbah has paid tribute to Lagbaja as a brave and patriotic soldier who lost his life for his country.
The governor of Enugu State, Mbah, also spoke on how the death of Lagbaja was a loss for the state and its citizens.
It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who had served as chief of the army staff.
He was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82nd Division in the Nigerian Army from March 2021 to August 2022; his death is a national and military tragedy, but it also affects the people and administration of Enugu State directly.
An accomplished officer, he had seen it all and had reached the pinnacle of his field. Gen. Lagbaja was an outstanding scholar, courageous officer, model leader, and patriot during his tenure at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC), and the numerous Army high commands he oversaw before becoming Chief of the Army Staff.
It should be noted that during his time as Chief of the Army Staff, he wholeheartedly supported our administration’s efforts to combat instability.
Without his backing, the fantastic accomplishments we have achieved in this area would not have been possible.
God grant his soul a peaceful repose, the governor said, expressing the government and good people of Enugu State’s condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Nigerian Army and security services, his immediate family, and the government and good people of Osun State.
