Julius Berger’s road contract with the Nigerian government has been formally terminated

Julius Berger’s contract to rehabilitate Section 1 of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano road has been terminated, according to the Federal Ministry of Works, due to the unjustified delay in the project’s implementation.

Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Works, made this information public in a statement she released on Wednesday.

According to the statement, “The Ministry has braced for a change in the ugly attitudes of some contractors who have constituted themselves into a cartel and sacred cows.

The infectious syndrome of business-as-usual and capital flight in contract execution masterminded by some expatriate contractors. The reckless chase for variation on price and foreign exchange differentials.

The utter disregard for value for money, quality, and timely delivery of projects.”

His Excellency, Engr. Nweze David Umahi, Minister of Works, has demonstrated that the works sector policy landscape can be progressively shaped by professionalism, enthusiasm, creativity, and determination.

All contractors must be aware that the time for Nigeria first is now, thanks to his brilliant sense of responsibility, precise and articulate presentation of facts and figures, unwavering determination to logically drive the agenda for the Renewed Hope road infrastructure revolution, and zero tolerance for anything less than performance.
