In light of continuing tensions and a “historically low” relationship with the US, the Kremlin has stated that it would not be extending any early congratulations to Donald Trump upon his election triumph.
Moscow still views the U.S. as a “unfriendly country” because of Washington’s support for Ukraine in the continuing conflict, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Although Moscow is keeping a careful eye on news and remarks made by American lawmakers, Peskov said, there is no reason to be optimistic about the current status of U.S.-Russia ties.
“When things are this bad between our two countries, it’s hard to see them getting any worse,” he said.
As the Kremlin put it, “directly and indirectly involved in a war against our state” is the United States.
World leaders have rushed to congratulate Trump on his recent triumph over Kamala Harris, with the exception of Russia, which has responded quite subtly.
The influence of Trump’s second non-consecutive term on the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine is unclear, despite his earlier pursuit of improved U.S.-Russia ties during his first term.
